A GOP betrayal of Trump nomination would lead to fallout
The saber-rattling that is coming from the Republican Party to possibly run a third party candidate if Donald Trump wins the primaries is upsetting. The very thing they were worried about - that Donald Trump might run as a third party candidate and give the election to Hillary Clinton - is precisely what they would be doing.
Although I haven’t chosen Trump as my candidate of choice (I’m leaning toward Sen. Ted Cruz), it’s a betrayal of Republican principles to run a candidate they want, instead of what the people want, if Trump secures the majority of the primaries. To put it another way, they would choose party over winning.
I know that if this happens, I will withdraw my support for the Republican Party outright. I left the Democratic Party after the death of JFK (as many did) because they became more left-leaning and the Republicans were the only refuge. They became a party that supported the issues I support mostly: right to life, protection for schools supporting the right to display anything religious (including saying a silent prayer at lunch time), building a stronger military and protection of our national borders, among others.
I realize that I would be a man without a party but that would be more conscience-serving than remaining with any party that would bring down this wonderful country we live in.
I am a U.S. Air Force Korean veteran and I’m hoping that our country builds up our military, reduces the power of legislative agencies, initiates term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court, protects our national borders and prevents refugees from Syria and other Middle Eastern countries from entering our country without proof that they are not terrorists.
