How the smell of horse poop stole Christmas
Christmas Day, we went to Springmaid Pier to walk the beach toward the north. We thought horses weren't allowed past this part of the beach. Big surprise, horses go way past this part of the beach.
Why aren't horses required to wear bags that catch the excrement? Many cities have horses in parades wear bags, many police horses wear bags. There's no reason why horses on our beaches don't wear them. Not everyone loves to smell or walk through sand that has horse excrement all though it.
Veterinarians all say that horse excrement is okay for the environment, but do they want to play, walk or search for beach shells on that part of the beach, plus it smells. If riders can afford the horse, they can afford and should be required to use a bag. You can get them for $25. Maybe we need a law to require all horses to wear bags.
Horse owners, be considerate, do that one thing to keep our beaches clean: use a bag. Think of others who want to enjoy our beaches.
