Trump resonates the public the way Archie Bunker did

AP

Re “Archie Bunker lives again,” Friday:

My, oh my, what a glut of Trump bashings have appeared recently in The Sun News. While Al Lauer is entertaining somewhat in his letter of “Archie Bunker lives again,” he has missed the real reason why Donald Trump is literally burying his competition in the ratings war. America has gotten tired of being “politically correct” in our present society.

The All in the Family sitcom penned by Norman Lear ran on TV from 1971 to 1979. Simply spoken, people embraced the working-class bigot and his family because of its realistic and topical conflicts that were breaking TV censorship barriers at the time. It must have struck a chord as it was the number one Neilsen-rated show from 1971 to 1976.

Carroll O'Connor, who played the role as Archie Bunker, also was a perfect drop-in as he was from Queens originally and suggested many shooting sites to bring full realism to the screen. Hey, he was lovable and decent deep down but was struggling to adapt to change. All of America must have identified with the show as even the USPS featured the show on a 33-cent stamp.

Hmm.....later we might wonder depending upon history if Donald Trump may be featured on a later “forever” stamp. The cultural impact was huge. Many spinoff shows resulted from this magic mix that the majority of the American public embraced. Hey, how can you even argue with eight Golden Globe Awards?

The only thing that America needs to fear is fear itself. Donald Trump is not afraid of controversy and does not need teleprompters like President Obama. Sure Archie bashed his son-in-law who was living with him while he finished graduate school. Hey, he was liberal and Archie was conservative but he had a label for him: “Meathead!” And no, Donald Trump is not a caricature but a breath of fresh air among the many politicians who have enriched themselves while putting America into crushing debt.

It was also interesting to see the use of the word “misogynist” which is splashed all over the media. Frankly had to look it up even though I have a college degree from an Ivy League school. OK that is a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women. Is Donald Trump one of these folks? I personally think not. There are many women high up as managers and in doing research on the Internet that appeared to be true.

Many women said he was a corporatist executive ahead of his time promoting career advancement. But let’s end with this woman fact. Let’s look at his campaign staff. The National Campaign Spokesman is actually a Spokes-woman-Katrina Pierson. Look up her on the Internet and she is a real power person who believes in Donald Trump's presidential aspirations. That said, America is now embracing Trump as we all need someone who will “Make America Great Again.”
