Clinton is the best choice for President

Re: Sally Howard’s letter of Sept. 18:

While I agree with her support for Hillary Clinton, her letter was neither convincing nor compelling. It essentially said that it is about time we elect a woman President. That is not sufficient. We should elect Hillary Clinton because among other reasons there are 3R’s and 3 E’s. First 3R’s:

Race relations have gone from bad to worse because of several tragic events. Hillary Clinton can reverse this with the help of former President Bill Clinton and the outgoing President Barack Obama.

Restructuring the infrastructure of the country: because of her connections, she has the potential of seeking investment in rebuilding the infrastructure of the nation.

Reconciliation: with her experience as the Secretary of State (good and bad) and her global recognition she can reach reconciliation with some countries with whom our relations are complex.

Then there are 3 E’s: Environment, Economy, and Education

Environment: Hillary Clinton is opposed to offshore drilling in the Atlantic as well as in the Arctic. She is also critical of the Keystone pipeline. She appears to favor exploring alternate sources of energy (wind and solar power).

Economy: The economy of the country was in the best shape during Bill Clinton’s administration. She could employ the same type of talent and grow the economy gradually to that level.

Education: Both Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have been strong supporters of education, and there should be no doubt that Hillary Clinton would be equally so.

There are many other women who are equally qualified, but because of some of the reasons given above, at this stage Hillary Clinton is in a unique position to assume the presidency. Last but not least, she has the best chance to trump Donald Trump. “Trump is equivalent to bubonic plague,” is the title of Celia Rivenbark’s column on Sept. 20.
