Walk to help those who believe suicide is the answer
Oct. 10 will be the 4th Annual Out of the Darkness Walk to raise awareness about suicide and support survivors. We have been averaging one suicide per week in Horry County for the past few years, according to the coroner.
Suicide is a permanent response to a temporary situation, in most cases, and it is preventable with counseling and treatment. A good start is afps.org or calling 800-273-TALK for advice and information.
Since the untimely suicide of Councilman Bob Grabowski in the spring, I have learned that our emergency rooms and 911 are staffed and trained to help.
I would like to thank Myrtle Beach Councilman Randal Wallace and Horry County Councilmen Mark Lazarus, Bill Howard, Johnny Vaught and Al Allen for contributing to the awareness and success of the Walk this year.
Come join us at 9:30 am at Broadway at the Beach at Celebrity Square for this 3-hour event. You may pre-register at afsp.org/walk.
