Supreme Court can’t make laws, it can only interpret them
Re: Sept. 9 letter from Mary Culbreth, “Davis entitled to benefits but should resign post”
Ms. Culbreth erroneously refers to the Supreme Court opinion that gay couples have “a right” to marry as a law. I would like to point out that the judicial branch, of which the US Supreme Court is a part, can not create a law of any kind.
They can issue an opinion but they can not make law. Crafting law is what the legislative branch is charged with. The judicial branch merely interprets the laws that the legislative branch crafts. The liberal left have been using the courts as a way to get their agenda around the legislature for so long that people are starting to assume that the judicial branch can also craft laws and this is simply not the case according to our Constitution. I just wanted to clarify that in the face of those who would have people think otherwise.
