Residents will ask North Myrtle Beach to ground helicopter plan again

Matt Silfer for The Sun News.

Last week, I was disheartened to learn that the helicopter company whose proposal for a special exception to allow helicopter tours was unanimously disapproved by the North Myrtle Beach Zoning Board in June has again made application for another location only 270 feet from the original site. The board will hear this request at 5 p.m., Thursday at City Hall .

One purpose of zoning is that residents have the right to expect peaceful enjoyment of their property. This point and others will be made at the meeting. In June, board member Cynthia Lover made the motion to disallow the zoning exemption: “The problem I’m having is that the business will not be in harmony with nearby areas,” she said.

On Sept. 10, homeowners, residents, and business owners of Windy Hill will be at City Hall to strongly request that the Zoning Board again deny this outrageous second attempt.
