Letter | Stop all the letters about our lack of Christian faith - and just act like a Christian

Don’t talk Christian, be Christian

I've just read this week’s diatribe about our lack of Christian faith. Each week, The Sun News prints a similar message from a reader who warns us that without Jesus we are doomed. One would assume that if these mini-sermons were effective, South Carolina would be full of Christian do-gooders who would lead the nation in piety, honesty and charity.

The poor would be fed, our children would be loved, and all marriages would be caring. Sadly, that's not the case.

Our murder rate, spousal abuse, child neglect and gun violence do not reflect the Christian ethic.

Jesus said to his disciples who would carry on his message: “Do not waste your time on those who do not hear.”

Engage with receptive audiences wherever they may be, and do good works.

Writing about your Christian fervor will not make even one convert. Only your good deeds in “his name” can make our state a beacon of hope. Find a homeless teenager and buy him new jeans for school; visit someone in a nursing home.

One kind act is worth more than a hundred letters. Put down your pen and find someone who needs your love.
