Letter | Producing more natural gas in the United States is long overdue
More natural gas production a no-brainer
There was an article in the New York Times and featured in The Sun News on Aug. 29, 2008, about the increasing use of natural gas as the fuel for automobiles in the state of Utah. The rise in gasoline prices has caused an interest is this obvious solution for our dependency on imported oil to produce gasoline.
It is about time!
This cleaner burning fuel has been available in this country for many decades, but economic interests have prevented its widespread use because of extensive lobbying efforts. It does not need extensive refining, it can be delivered by pipelines instead of trucks, and engines last longer.
I wonder why oil companies and auto manufacturers have not wanted its widespread use? Here it is, seven years later, and still nothing has been done.
We must send the message that we want action now so that we are not facing the same problems 10 years from now. This must be a program for longer term benefits for our security and for economic benefits.
