Letter: Servers who call you ‘sweetie’ don’t mean any disrespect
Dear “Senior Diners” ... if being addressed as “honey” and “sweetie” offends you sooooooo horribly, then maybe you should order two desserts.
Instead of automatically not tipping your server (who, by the way only earns $2.13 an hour) you could politely correct your server. He/she may not realize they are offending anyone by speaking this way. After all, this is the South. More likely than not, the average age of the servers is under 25 ... so maybe, just maybe, it could be a generational thing and not something that is meant to be interpreted as offensive.
