Letter | Time to support, not demonize police; we need them

Support police; we need them

I was extremely offended by the half page cartoon on the editorial page on July 25. It was a drawing of a police car, and the caption read: “Racial injustice may be closer than we'd like to admit.”

Do you really believe all police are racist? This attack on our police has got to stop.

I know this is motivated by recent fatal incidents in Ferguson, Baltimore and New York, etc. where black men died at the hands of police. However, there was one common thread in each case. Each time, the victim resisted arrest and refused to comply with anofficer's requests.

That is always going to end bad, black or white.

Had these men complied with the police officers requests, I have no doubt they would be alive today. Let me say, I am not a police officer, nor have I ever worked in any form of law enforcement. Officers have a very tough job. They are usually dealing with folks when the folks are not at their best.

They face confrontation all the time. Thank god they are there.

I support our police, as we all should. Can you imagine what it would be like without them? I truly believe when police are all fitted with body cameras, you are going to find out how tough their job is and how often they are right.
