Letter | Yes, Myrtle Beach has the power to regulate mo-peds

We have the power to regulate mo-peds

Kudos to Myrtle Beach Spokesman Mark Kruea for providing state code, as well as contact info for persons wanting to see mo-peds off our higher speed roads.

It is clear from the code that mo-peds cannot travel faster than 25 mph. Was the legislative intent to keep mo-peds on 25 mph roads?

I would think so.

As for Myrtle Beach having no power on this matter, I disagree. City, town and county officials can take a public stand on this matter and work with state legislators to have the laws changed.

Next week as you go out for National Night Out, ask your elected officials and police where they stand on this topic. I encourage you to contact your state representatives and let them know how you feel about mo-peds in our communities.

Think about it; golf carts are heavily regulated, mo-peds are not. It's time to make the roads safer for the motoring public.
