Letter | Writer’s assessment of past GOP administrations off the mark
Re: July 8 letter from Jim Davis, “Enormous damage caused by GOP”
Mr. Davis, your letter is like those from most liberal letter writers. It just shows that your memory fails you. I will agree with you that Clinton did leave “GW” with a surplus. How he did that was by taxing my Social Security and maybe yours also.
But what upstanding Democrat doesn’t like a tax? Of course this was a Democratic Congress and Senate behind him. Of course you forgot to mention His “Sexcapade” and the $300 million he received from the Chinese to pass NAFTA, which resulted in 8.5 million put out of work and most manufacturing sent to the Far East.
As for the Iraq war, he did make a mistake there, but remember Harry Truman and the Korean war. If he had listened to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, there would be no North Korea just Korea. Then you have JFK & LBJ’s war in Vietnam. Both of these useless wars cost over 80,000 lives and hundreds of thousands of our men and women severely wounded.
Then our current president in August stated that they did not have a plan for this war. Now almost one year later at the G8 meeting, he stated that his administration still did not have a plan. His legacy is bringing more illegal immigrants, Muslims and Somalis here. Also worrying about gay rights, and making nice with Cuba rather than getting American people off the dole and back to work at meaningful jobs.
Now his plan is to open up free trade with Central and South America and training people who lose their jobs when this happens. Get your head out of the sand Mr. Davis.
The writer lives in Pawleys Island.
