Letter | The Confederate flag is down, time for the South to move forward - unified

FUTURE

Time for South to move forward together

The Confederate flag has been brought down from the South Carolina State House, and I understand it meant different things to different people. Now that it's done, let the South move on. Why not sponsor a contest in our schools to design a new flag that represents all that is good about the South? Let it represent peace, unity, and Southern hospitality.

No, we're not there yet, but let a new flag bring inspiration; let it also be a memorial to all who died in the Civil War, South or North.

Since we've moved here from Ohio a year and a half ago, we've certainly discovered a Southern hospitality that is not so evident in the North. I'm also amazed that 15,000 walked across the Ravenel Bridge in unity to respond to the evil shootings in Charleston.

Let a new generation provide inspiration with a new flag. Let it happen. Let it happen now.
