Letter | Obama’s move to reopen U.S. relations with Cuba is short-sighted

Bad move to reopen Cuban relations
I wrote a letter to The Sun News several months ago about why the United States should not resume diplomatic relations with Cuba. I expressed my thoughts on the Castros and how they actually begged Russia to push the big Red Button to make our country an ashtray, among a few other things, back in October of 1962.
Now it's a reality as President Obama has decided to go through with his plan for Washington and Havana to establish embassies at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Obama's weak excuse is that we don't have to be imprisoned by the past.
This man has successfully gotten his way with his silver tongue with nothing to back up his words. I have discussed my views with many friends. The most common result I got from Obama supporters is that why is it OK to have relations and trade with countries like China and Vietnam who, like Cuba, are communist nations?
The big difference that puts Cuba on the danger list is that Cuba is only 90 miles from Florida. People in Florida and the rest of the country are worried how easy it will be for criminals from Cuba to enter the U.S. I also said in my letter that Cuba would ask for our Naval Base in Gitmo back, and sure enough Cuba has already put this on their bucket list.
This is music to Putin’s ears in Russia, as he would like nothing better than to push his Ukraine agenda into the Western hemisphere.
Obama may have some sort of a point by stating that we don't have to be imprisoned by our past. However, we don't have to be imprisoned by our future either.
