Atheists deserve respect
Re: June 23 article, “'Religious graffiti vandalizes roads around Florence,” and the June 26 letter to the editor, “Don't let atheists take God out of the US,” I would like to comment as an atheist tourist and visitor to the state of South Carolina.
I have officially logged a complaint with the Florence Department of Works to ask that they pave over the Christian graffiti on public roads.
The public roads belong to everyone, which includes atheist residents and visitors, and no graffiti supporting a particular religious belief should be tolerated.
Regarding the letter complaining about no prayer in schools, that is because of the separation of church and state. I am raising my children without religion, and others are free to raise their children with religion at a separate place of worship - but not in a public school.
Please respect everyone in South Carolina, including atheist visitors.
