Letter | President Obama can’t cut spending or raise taxes without Congress

President can’t cut spending without Congress
Re: June 3 letter to the editor by George Edwards about defense spending.
Edwards has granted the current president more power than the U.S. Constitution allows. The U.S. Congress has the power to generate revenue (taxes) and control spending, according to the constitution I read.
It’s amazing what one finds when he or she does some research and fact-checking.
It seems there were issues with the overall federal budget in late 2012 and early 2013. The net result was sequestration.
Every federal agency suffered budget cuts. Mr. Edwards, yes, you are correct, the Department of Defense budget has been reduced.
But it wasn't done unilaterally by President Obama.
Mr. Edwards, you will be happy to know the 2015 fiscal year federal budget which includes defense spending that won’t be cut.
