Don't cut leave for county employees

Horry County Administrator Chris Eldridge has chosen to attack the county workforce by suggesting a reduction in the amount of leave provided by Horry County Council. He has skewed the numbers by basing the 5 weeks of leave on a 5-day, 40-hour work week. Some agencies, such as the police department, work 12-hour shifts, thus any leave is taken in 12-hour increments.

Those numbers don't come anywhere close to 5 weeks off.

This is one of the first attacks Eldridge waged against employees while in Georgetown; seems to be a pattern. He did manage to secure wage increases for himself, the amount of which exceeds the starting salary paid to a police officer.

Council members need to realize that county employees vote; so do their family and friends, as well as the many community members they contact daily.

The damage done by this careless action will adversely effect the county long after Mr. Eldridge moves on to wreak havoc in another jurisdiction.
