South Carolina GOP plan would hurt environment, not help roads

Re: May 8 Associated Press article, “Senate Republicans offer another plan to fix South Carolina roads.”

This guy wants a “flat tax” on all hybrid cars! The plan was submitted by Majority Leader Harvey Peeler.

We own a Prius, a great car. Are these state legislators nuts? In the paper yesterday the global warming carbon buildup is the worst in over 2 million years. The oceans have gone up in temperature. Once the world temp hits a couple of degrees warmer we will have trouble growing crops.

These same dudes want to drill offshore and they think they can provide desalinization plants making sea water to fresh water as we continue to pollute our river drinking water source. If we have one oil spill it’s over. Some $19 billion is generated by tourism and the beaches are a main draw.

We just discovered a drill spill two weeks ago an oil company kept secret for several years, which polluted as much as the big BP spill in the Gulf.

The best fission nuclear power is “Thorium” a green fuel abundant and as cheap as coal. But we continue to build outdated “uranium’ fission plants so we can have more nuclear weapons.

By switching to much safer and cleaner Thorium, we would save nuclear energy ratepayers over 80 percent.

Back to the “Hybrid Tax:” Maybe Prius dealers could energize the other car dealers to fight this idiotic proposed tax. Let’s make South Carolina a better place to live. Nothing wrong with clean water and air whether you’re a conservative or liberal.

The writers lives in Little River.
