Letter | All the reasons South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham should be president
POLITICS
Graham a good choice for president?
As a lifelong Democrat, I am dismayed by our only current candidate's reckless disregard for protocol. The current Republican slate is lacking a possible leader with high principles and an unsullied reputation.
As a South Carolina resident for the past 6 years, I have observed the Southern gentleman, Sen. Lindsey Graham. He has admonished other legislators to be courteous and respect the office of the presidency, which has been sorely lacking in most incumbents. He has been willing to work with the opposition in an honorable effort to govern. I feel he might be the candidate who has the best chance to regain the respect of world leaders. Like minded independents and democrats might embrace his love for the U.S.
For those conservatives who only worry about taxes, I offer these true, albeit facetious reasons to elect Graham:
1. World leaders and most voters would embrace his classy name.
2. As a bachelor, we would save a bundle on Secret Service who are supposed to protect the first family.
3. Wear and tear on the White House family quarters would only require one maid and one chef who could serve grits and sausage and other inexpensive southern fare.
4. The spirit of choice would be bourbon instead of five wines and single malt scotch. This would no doubt cause a spike in sales of southern bourbon.
5. Vacations are less likely to involve helicopters or Air Force one.
6. Non financial perks would be speculation for the media about any possible dating activity. Southern Belles, take note.
7. Lastly but most important he would spend so much more time on governing issues since he doesn't have a needy wife and children to distract him.
He would get my vote!
