Letter | Genetically modified food? I’ll stick with the natural stuff, thank you
TECHNOLOGY
Keep my food natural
The article in the April 2 edition of The Sun News on GMO (genetically modified) foods, “Next Generation GMOs: Pink pineapples and purple tomatoes” - was very interesting.
It said that GMO foods will help you avoid cancer and cardiovascular disease. In other words, be a couch potato and smoke yourself silly as long as you eat GMO products.
They will say anything to get the consumer to buy GMO foods.
Monsanto has millions invested in GMOs and I am sure they have lobbyists in Washington; we all know what that means. I try to buy organic and GMO free for our family. No, it is not always more expensive if you shop around, and sometimes it costs less than regular food.
The article also said there may be purple tomatoes, so the choice is a red one without chemicals or a purple one with chemicals. It seems pretty obvious to me that you would be eating a laboratory engineered purple tomato.
All of my relatives lived into their 90s. They did not eat GMO foods, which are banned where they live, in Britain. And my father had his own vegetable patch.
I have found a local supermarket that assured me they do not carry, and do not plan to carry, GMO fruits and vegetables, so they will get my business.
