March of Dimes headed to Horry County in May
I am the mother of a premature child and a March of Dimes volunteer working toward the day when all babies are born healthy.
The March of Dimes has worked for more than 75 years to help babies get a healthy start in life. Four million babies were born in the United States last year, and the March of Dimes helped each and every one through research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs. Although you may not realize it, you are March of Dimes baby if …
- You or someone you know is one of the nearly 8,000 parents who had a premature baby in our state this year
- You had a healthy baby due in part to good prenatal care at home and from your doctor or nurse
- Your baby had a heal prick test (newborn screening) to identify potentially life threatening disorders
- You have had a polio vaccine
Premature birth continues to be the leading cause of newborn death in the U.S. and claims the lives of about 1e million babies worldwide each year.
The March of Dimes continues to invest in vital research to end premature birth and to fund local programs to help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies.
March for Babies is coming to Horry County on May 2nd. It’s an easy and fun way to support this mission.
We welcome families, friends and individuals to attend the event. Babies are especially welcome!
Let’s walk together for stronger, healthier babies. Sign up today and start raising funds at marchforbabies.org.

Correction: There was an error in Sunday’s editorial, “Crude oil doesn’t fit in tourism economy,” in The Sun News. Rep. Tom Rice has not come out in favor of drilling off our coast. Rice has said he's in favor of seismic testing.
