More taxes are notanswer to problems

Re: March 30 letter from Terry Munson, “Fear of increasing taxes in South Carolina driving politicians to risk the environment”

Some people think raising taxes is always the easy answer. Property taxes increased almost 20 percent this year. Restaurant taxes are 10.5 percent, hotel taxes are 12 percent, mixed drink taxes are 15.5 percent.

Then we have sales, state, federal, gasoline, and many other miscellaneous taxes. We average close to 50 percent of our income to pay taxes yet we have huge deficits. Here's a novel idea: Spend the money wisely.
