Democratic ‘nonsense’ hurts our country
Re “Republicans believe in simplistic nonsense” letter by Terry Munson.
Due to the regularity of Munson’s submissions, he has earned the nickname, "Monthly Munson". It is not intended to be derogatory, but commentary on his monthly utilization of The Sun News to express his views.
On schedule, "Monthly" Munson spouts the simplistic nonsense liberals have spun for so long they believe it. For the 50 years I’ve been reading newspapers, the Democratic answer to everything Republican or libertarian is this: they are using "government power to make rich people much richer and ignore all else."
-- The inheritance tax: Americans earn, pay taxes on earnings, pay property taxes on hard assets and income taxes on income produced by investments. Decades of their work, their savvy, their time and their sacrifice result in wealth. Beneficiaries of that wealth should be the producer’s choice, not someone in Washington. Even in death, Democrats would hold us in financial bondage.
-- The health care bill: For eight years, article after article regarding Obamacare has revealed two simple facts. It is primarily a welfare program. It is funded by Americans through three sources. Taxes were added to all sorts of medical necessities. General tax revenues keep the insurers from going bankrupt. There are penalties (tax per the Supreme Court) for not buying insurance.
Prominent Democrats, argue repeal or replacement of Obamacare will be the biggest tax break for the wealthiest Americans. This argument concedes that Obamacare was the most massive tax increase on the wealthiest Americans. But demagoguery obfuscates the truth. KISS, (Keep It Simple Stupid) and Americans will understand that everyone paying a medical bill or buying insurance is paying the embedded taxes of Obamacare.
The wealthy and foreign banks: Perhaps "Monthly" is referring to the trillions left overseas because our tax rates are higher than other countries. Simply stated, other countries are offering a higher rate of return via lower taxes. Banks gain depositors by offering higher rates of return. Lower the tax rates, money comes home, is taxed, reinvested or spent here. Retain the rates and become uncompetitive. Nonsense? No, the simple truth.
A challenge for Munson: As a college graduate in the recession plagued 1970s, I had a lot more time than money. I worked for an employer and spent evenings and weekends working at anything I could do myself. I now find myself with less time than money. Why change my own oil and rotate my tires? I pay someone to do it and pursue my interests. The entire Demagogic Party misses it. The more money I have, the more I generate economic activity. Reduce my taxes and my tax savings benefits the mechanic at Tire Town, the neighbor who works at Dunkin Donuts, the mechanic fixing my boat, the waitress at the Sun Down, the Shriner’s Hospital, a children’s home, the March of Dimes. Raise my taxes and all the money that had been trickling down locally is diminished. It’s not nonsense.
Simple issues are made complex by the Democratic Party, and to be fair, most other politicians to obfuscate the truth. It is not about making the rich richer. It is about who controls and who benefits from your economic productivity.
