Do your homework before panicking over ‘global warming’

Re: March 21 letter from Joe Martin, “Climate change deserves everyone’s attention”

Mr. Martin suggests that those of us with children and grandchildren should be very concerned about climate change. But it is precisely because I too am concerned about my children and grandchildren that I am a strong skeptic of dangerous, anthropogenic climate change.

Even if the IPCC's temperature predictions come true (they have never even been close), the economic effects of prevention vs. mitigation are more devastating than the assumed problem.

Because he is rightfully concerned by what he hears, he should also be willing to hear Dr. Patrick Moore, a founding member and former president of Greenpeace. Dr. Moore's credentials should lend him as much credence as the unidentified 97 percent of (climate) scientists he mentions.

I would suggest that Mr. Martin search youtube.com for these three words “Patrick Moore ICCC9.” There he will find a 30-minute video by Dr. Moore as he explains his own skepticism of dangerous, anthropogenic climate change. I hope Mr. Martin will sleep more easily afterward.

The writer lives in Murrells Inlet.
