Retirement outcomes make no sense

My wife and I have lived here at Myrtle Beach for 35 years. We love living here. I retired in 2005. I was a truck driver for 35 years. The entire time I drove a truck, I never got a speeding ticket or an overloading ticket. I got kids out of burning cars. I saved a Georgia state trooper from a bad bad accident, and on and on and on.

When I was sworn in as a Teamster in 1970, I was told, when I had enough time in, not to worry about my retirement because they had enough money. I received a letter from the Teamsters about two months ago that I would be losing my retirement because they were running out of money. I was with local 728 out of Chicago.

I am writing after reading in The Sun News about Santee Cooper CEO Lonnie Carter. He had 35 years in. It is hard for me to believe that he will be getting $800,000 a year in retirement funds. This does not make sense to me.

How can he be getting that kind of retirement while I am losing mine? When I lose mine, it is really going to hurt bad. My wife and I are heart patients. We both are having a rough time. She’s 81 and I am 77.
