If God will take care of our problems, why do we need politicians?
In May of 2017, Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) told a constituent that God can solve the problem of climate change if the global phenomenon truly exists.
The 66-year-old Republican, who is a climate change skeptic, made the remark at a town hall in Coldwater, Michigan.
“I believe there’s climate change,” Walberg said, according to a video of the exchange obtained by HuffPost. “I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I believe there are cycles. Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.”
“Why do I believe that?” he went on. “Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”
Maybe Mr. Walberg should carry that thought a bit farther. Perhaps man cannot do anything about the murder rate in Detroit, so we should fire all the police and let God handle the problem.
People exceed the speed limit on Michigan freeways all the time, so let’s just do away with speed limits and let God handle the problem.
Environmental protection laws are being circumvented all the time and they cost industry lots of money to comply. Why not do away with all the environmental laws and allow industry to dump toxic waste wherever they wish? If it is really a problem, God can take care of it.
You, Mr. Walberg, are guilty of using the biggest cop-out ever foisted on the American people by politicians. And since you do not feel we need laws to protect American citizens because God can take care of our problems, and since your job is to write those laws, apparently you are no longer needed.
Do you plan to resign any time soon and allow God to take care of things? Just asking.
