Newcomers must pay fair share of taxes
With the new law requiring a $250 fee to be paid on out-of-state vehicles registering in South Carolina, I certainly hope one of the new fixtures at our schools will be a camera to record the out-of-state plates on cars dropping off students.
We all know this happens all the time - folks beating the tax system that pays for their kid's education.
Those same folks who are avoiding local taxes will be avoiding paying for the road repairs so desperately needed here. Officials, be alert. When school starts, the fee beaters will be there demanding we educate their children while they play beat the system.
We long-time residents pay our fees and taxes regularly. Let’s make sure all these newcomers are doing the same.
