How far have we fallen that we need armed guards in schools?
The Sunday edition of The Sun News contained an article on security firms providing armed guards in the schools. When you think of the overall concept of having an armed guard in a school, whether it be a security firm or the police, does anyone wonder just when and how society became such a zoo? Metal detectors and armed guards. Is that really the type of environment youths are to be exposed to when they're trying to get an education?
When visiting one of the local schools last year, I had to ring the outside intercom and give a thesis on my purpose only to be buzzed through the first set of doors. Then I had to stand and wait to be buzzed through a second set of doors. I thought to myself, what the heck is going on here?
If you really need to decide whether to have a security firm or the police provide armed protection at a school, maybe it's time to close the school and start over.
