No more important role than being a father
Father is the most precious relationship and respected title on the planet. Even God chose that title for Himself toward His creation. He also shared that name with a special man who brought us life and spends the rest of his life providing and guiding, and being there for us.
Senora Dodd is responsible for getting Fathers’ Day recognized in our country. After hearing a sermon on Mother’s Day and thinking fathers should have such a day, she began a campaign that saw the first Father’s Day celebrated on the third Sunday of June 1910 in her congregation in Spokane, Washington.
The Bible says it is right that we honor fathers (Romans 13:7; Ephesians 6:1-2). In Scripture, the primary responsibility of fathers is to communicate a living faith in God to the next generation. The goal of fathers of faith in the Bible was that their children would choose to follow God as their father (Joshua 24:15).
Allow me to borrow and paraphrase God’s word concerning the virtuous woman (Proverbs 31) applying it to a father of faith.
It’s hard to find a father of faith. He is worth much more than precious jewels. His wife depends on him. He will do her and the children good all the days of his life. His children say they are blessed to have him as their father and his wife brags about him and says there are many good men, but you’re the best.
Good looks can fool you, but a man who respects the Lord should be praised. Give him the reward he deserves. Praise him in public for the things he has done. Happy Father’s Day.
