Presidential disrespect redounds on President Trump
In his speech at the Coast Guard Academy graduation, President Trump alleged that he has received more disrespect than any president in American history. I tend to disagree. I believe his predecessor did, and that Trump was among those most disrespectful to President Obama.
Trump first made his political bones as a birther. Can you think of anything more disrespectful than alleging the president was not entitled to his post because he supposedly was not an American? I can, and that would be persisting in this assertion for eight years and failing to disavow it and admit you were wrong even when presented with a bona fide American birth certificate. By my reckoning, Trump is entitled to at least seven and a half more years of disrespect before anyone should take his complaint seriously.
During the campaign, Trump received strong support from the conservative Christian community. Perhaps he should pay closer attention to their parables, beginning with the one that says something about reaping what you sow.
