I respect the American flag, too

Re “Respect flag and its customs” letter by Robert Manning.

I proudly fly our flag without taking it down before dark or lighting it at night simply because as a 75-year-old widow I am, even in excellent health with no disabilities with thanks to God, not about to climb a ladder with the risk of a fall to take down my flag at night and consider the lamp post at the end of my driveway sufficient for lighting.

If my flag were lowered to enable me to take it down at night, it would touch the ground, which I consider more disrespectful. Mr. Manning should give thought to all those homes and businesses that never fly our flag. I am a proud American who is blessed to be a part of this great country and never take it for granted.

If you want to rail against something Mr. Manning, try convincing our liberal-controlled school systems to start mandating the Pledge of Allegiance once again.
