Horry County Council liberals ‘considering’ yet another tax increase

Re: Dec. 1 article titled, “Horry County Considers Property Tax Increase to Funds parks and Recreation.”

Seems like every time I open The Sun News, there’s another article about Horry County “considering” a tax increase of some sort.

My wife and I retired to the Surfside Beach area after her 26 years as a New York City school teacher. We retired from Long Island - the tax capital of the world - to escape taxes.

We came down here to be close to family, enjoy warmer winters, cheaper gas and lower property taxes.

Horry County and South Carolina already raised the car use fee on us last year, and while I drive an older car, my fee more than doubled, from $40 to $85. Horry County and the state want to increase the gas tax for their roads. Where is all the money from the current gas tax fund going? Could it be the state is borrowing from the gas tax fund to build walking and bike paths or something else?

Same crap happens up North, which is why we left.

Now Horry County wants to consider a property tax increase to fund the recreation center. Where’s the taxes they’ve been collecting going? How about cutting spending before raising taxes? We all know that consider means done deal.

North Carolina was in play this election cycle because Northerners moving South bring with them their Northern liberal ideology, never assimilating to the southern and libertarian ways of the South. This same ideology caused taxes to skyrocket up North and caused them to leave in the first place. I can never understand why Northerners move south to escape taxes only, in some cases, to then run for office of some sort and start the same vicious tax cycle all over.

I am starting to think the Horry County Council is made up of Northerners and, if not, liberal Democrats.

Stop spending money. And keep taxes down.
