Taxes and fees to fix roads and transportation going up too much

Horry County has increased road use fees to $50 per vehicle. It will cost us another 1 percent of income for everything we purchase in sales taxes, purportedly to improve roads. County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus now wants to raise taxes to improve bus service that seems few people use.

And the South Carolina General Assembly is planning to raise gas taxes for roads improvements. Great roads will not be so great if people can't afford to live here and visitors find cheaper venues.

Spend our money wisely and keep taxes under control.
