We should respond to divisive election like we do to hurricanes
There is something uniquely unifying about the shared experience of weathering a storm with your fellow man. It shows how truly fragile we are and how fragmented we are not.
We all feel a need for security and safety. We all feel a sense of loss when we see our neighbors struggle, and a sense of guilt and relief when we have not had to suffer their pain.
Our hearts bleed for them and we feel a pressing need to do something to show them we care, whether through an encouraging word, a pray lifted up, rolling up our sleeves to help or opening our wallets to do what little we can to show we are all on this journey together.
May the pervasive peace and sense of community that rises up to take care of its own during times of trouble not be something that only a hurricane brings.
May our sense of decency and honor toward one another not be lost in the hurricane force winds that threaten to rip our country apart.
