Blame yourself for not better preparing for Hurricane Matthew

When I read the letter “Santee Cooper is in the dark, owes me $100 for spoiled food,” I just shook my head. Then I felt I needed to step out of my comfort zone and have a say.

I, too, have Santee Cooper as my electricity provider. I also lost power. But being advised by the media that a huge hurricane was one the way, I took ice from my ice maker in my fridge, bagged it and used it to keep the cold food cool and the frozen, frozen.

I did not whine - because Santee Cooper couldn't control the hurricane!

I am sure they worked around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Unless you work in their industry, you have no idea what it entails to keep thousands of homes and businesses supplied with power during a natural disaster.

Shame on you, sir. Lots of people lost their homes and loved ones and pets - and it was not because of Santee Cooper.
