Ride III just the latest tax on hard-working residents
I would like to voice my opinion on the amendment coming up for vote on election day, called Ride III.
The television advertising states it would be paid for by tourists. But that is not true. It would be paid for by every resident who lives here year round.
Currently, there is a 16.75 cent tax per gallon of gas. Of that, 13.34 cents goes to a road-use fund. Now they want to tax us again for new road construction and repair with a 1 percent sales tax on everything (except food), which would bring our local tax rate to 9 percent, which would be the 3rd highest in the country.
I say “no” to this tax.
It also states that it would be in effect for 8 years - but we all know taxes never go down.
I just don't think the hard-working people in this area need to be spending nearly 10 percent of their income on more sales tax.
I vote no to Ride III.
