Hurricane Matthew response was great, but insurance problems loom
I am just writing to tell The Sun News how proud I am of the way the police and city services of North Myrtle Beach reacted to the hurricane, during it and the follow up.
I am also writing to tell you the way I think the S.C. Wind and Hail Insurance is a big ripoff. A lot of my neighbors and friends had damage to their property, but with the way wind and hail insurance works (or doesn’t work), they will only pay for damage after the total price of your property's deductible is met and not the cost of each storm.
I believe it should be 5 percent or 10 percent of the cost of the repairs and not 5 percent or 10 percent of a $180,000 home.
Since our insurance company dropped that coverage and took our money and ran, you have to have S.C. Wind and Hail because of loans or lines of credit. It just does not seem fair.
