Destroying our heritage in the guise of development

A heritage is something of value that is passed on to our descendants. The Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Reserve will not be a heritage that we pass on to our children. The convenience of some drivers, the votes for some politicians, and money for the contractors and local property owners seem to be more important than providing a nature preserve for our children and their children.

The four-lane road through this nature preserve will create noise and smells that will extend for miles and drive away the birds and animals.

A short time ago, we could see hawks soaring in the sky almost every day. Now they are all gone. The construction for International Drive has driven them all away. Before long, there will be no more birds or other animals in this Heritage Nature Reserve, and the Carolina Bays (mud holes) will all be filled in.

The next step in the destruction of our heritage will probably be rezoning, followed by housing developments.

Horry County Council is boasting that they are responsible for this disaster. Looks like we need a completely new county council.
