Republicans are the real civil rights heroes

Re Carlton Boyd's letter in the September 27 issue of The Sun News.

I was amused that he was “proud to be a member of the party,” which is the Democratic Party, who “stood up for civil rights.”

It's too bad Mr. Boyd doesn't know his history. While he was quick to denigrate the Republican Party, and especially Donald Trump, it might behoove him to do some research. It was the Republican Party that ended slavery by supporting the 13th Amendment. The Republicans also supported the 15th Amendment, which supported former slaves' right to vote. Democrats, for the most part, were against these amendments.

How quickly people gloss over events that might embarrass them. I guess taking the easy way out and blaming one candidate while ignoring the other is the norm nowadays. A little research into Hillary Clinton would open a few eyes.
