It’s disrespectful to protest during the national anthem
Even with all of the problems facing this wonderful country, we still have the freedom to express our rights as citizens of the United States. However, the recent events displayed by several sports personalities, electing not to stand for the national anthem, does strike a negative blow to the brave men and women who served to preserve those rights we all enjoy as Americans.
Whether we agree or not with their message, it’s the physical act of disrespecting those Americans who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice so much for our freedoms. There are other opportunities available to those sports personalities to show they really care about the cause they’re supporting.
One would be to create improved relations by visiting and working with communities and local law enforcement rather than displaying their discontent by disrespecting others. Using their celebrity status in a positive manner will also gain media attention and create a greater awareness for the mistreatment of people of color in the U.S.
Only positive actions will bring positive change.
