Horry County Literacy Council still here to help
The mission of the Horry County Literacy Council is to improve lives; our vision is to make a difference; our students are the reason for our existence; our volunteers are the core to their success.
The Council has recently moved to a 923 N Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. We are continually training tutors and have developed a program for children called “Read and Create,” which combines literacy with artistic expression. A Health Literacy Program has also begun at the New Directions Shelters.
We continue to use the Barton Reading & Spelling Program because of the success rate. Ask the individuals whom our 30 to 40 volunteers have tutored. Every student masters each level of the reading program before moving forward. When this is done, the success rate is 100 percent.
Thank you volunteers!
The HCLC is here to serve the needs of our community. Please contact us if you need services or if you would like to become a volunteer.
