Our family is completely shocked and upset that Myrtle Beach City Council voted to take away the free parking in public access lots on Ocean Boulevard from 31st to 82nd Avenues North.
We live in Carolina Forest and pay taxes to Horry County. We frequent many restaurants and buy goods within the city limits, paying the extra sales tax, which amounts to a significantly higher dollar amount than typical tourists pay to the city, since we frequent these establishments year round, not just a week or two.
The pay parking is not that big a deal for a tourist on vacation, but a non-city “local” who visits the beach often will have to pay a lot to park in this area. We hope they reconsider and keep parking for all “locals” free at these beach access locations, or at least provide some alternative for local families to be able to park for a reasonable rate.
