Burden from the North: New York contributing to South Carolina tax burden

A Tax Foundation report claims New York State has the heaviest tax burden. There are two results affecting us here. One: retirees moving South vote for the same failed New York policies to increase taxes here. Two: young northerners are not moving south toward jobs and opportunity and the jobs are filled by illegals.

Yesterday's New Yorkers who voted for New York's burdensome taxes and regulations are today's retirees moving south to escape the results of what they voted for. Their pension dollars go farther here. Why not vote for more “services,” but services equal taxes and regulations.

When I moved south in 1986 there were a lot of 20-something northerners looking for work. Today New York's public assistance gives people the buying power of a $50,000 job. No reason to leave New York or study for higher education. The construction, food service and retail jobs that many young northerners filled back in the ‘80s and ‘90s are now being filled by illegals.

Just goes to show you get what you subsidize.
