On Monday at 5 am, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Category 3 Hurricane Lee is 340 miles north of the Northern Leeward Islands and 650 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, with maximum sustained wind of 120 mph. It’s moving 7 mph to the northwest.
"... Lee is expected to pass well north of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico during the next day or two." forecasters noted. "Some additional strengthening is forecast over the next day or so, followed by gradual weakening."
YESTERDAY (Sunday):
Yesterday, Lee found new strength and evolved from a Category 2 hurricane into a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 miles per hour.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:
SURF: Swells generated by Lee are affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Dangerous surf and rip currents have begun to affect portions of the southeastern U.S. coast, and these conditions are forecast to spread northward along much of the U.S. East Coast during the next couple of days.
