Snow at the beach! See how residents captured the winter storm’s impact on Myrtle Beach
Usually, snow covering the ground and sandy beaches don’t go together, but a winter storm brought precisely that to the Myrtle Beach area.
The National Weather Service forecast in one of its afternoon updates before the storm arrived that four or five inches of snow would fall on the Grand Strand Jan. 21, 2025. According to the NWS Snowfall Database for Myrtle Beach, it’s the most since February 2010, when 3.5 inches landed on the Grand Strand.
Given the rarity of a winter wonderland in Myrtle Beach, many residents and visitors took to social media to capture the snow.
One TikTok user videoed the snowfall on the beach late Tues. Jan. 21, 2025, accompanied by the song “Snow On The Beach” by Taylor Swift.
The City of Myrtle Beach posted on its Facebook an aerial view of how much snow fell on the downtown area and Ocean Blvd.
One X user, formerly known as Twitter, posted a video of the winter storm as they traveled through the Market Common area.
Another X user posted a video of them attempting to sled in their backyard as the snow fell accompanied by an excited dog.
Meanwhile, one Facebook user posted photos of their efforts to make snow angels in the winter wonderland.
The Myrtle Beach Resort posted a photo of snow covering Ocean Blvd. in downtown Myrtle Beach on its Facebook page.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans minor league baseball team also took to X to show how much snow fell on its field, adding, “A tarp text would go crazy right now.”
One X user posted a photo of a Myrtle Beach resident clearing snow using a shovel attached to an ATV.
WPDE Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski also posted a video on X of someone skiing on the beach in Myrtle Beach.
