Winter storm causes closures in Myrtle Beach. Here’s cancellations announced on Wednesday
The Myrtle Beach area was hit with 4 inches of snow Tuesday night, causing schools and businesses to shut down.
Travel remains hazardous in the area as many streets are not plowed. Some snow is expected to melt Wednesday but will refreeze and create icy conditions on Thursdays, said Jordan Baker with the National Weather Service.
Here are the Grand Strand cancellations.

Wednesday announcements
Schools
- Horry County Schools: All Horry County Schools will have e-learning on Jan. 23. All extracurricular activities will be rescheduled to a later date.
Tuesday announcements
Schools
- Horry Georgetown Technical College: In-person operations HGTC will stop at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed through Jan. 22. Classes and services will be online on Wednesday.
- Coastal Carolina University: The CCU campus will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21. Classes held after 4 p.m. will be online. Find the full list of closures here.
- Horry County Schools: On Jan. 22, Horry County Schools will have an e-learning day, according to an announcement from spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier. All extracurricular activities Tuesday and Wednesday will be rescheduled.
Georgetown County School District: On Tuesday, the Georgetown County School District will have a half day. Elementary schools will close at 11:00 a.m., intermediate schools at 11:15 a.m. and middle and high schools at 12:15 p.m. The district has not released an announcement about Wednesday.
Government offices and non-profits
Horry County: All facilites and offices within Horry County will close at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed all day Jan. 22. Normal operations are expected to be back on Thursday. This includes the recycling centers and landfill and libraries. Parks and recreation and library programs are canceled on Wednesday.
Myrtle Beach: City offices, recreation centers and the Chapin Memorial Library will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed on Jan. 22. There will also be no solid waste collection on Wednesday.
Conway: Conway city offices, parks and the Conway Sports and Fitness Center will close at 6 p.m. on Jan. 21 and will remain closed on Jan. 22. All scheduled activities during that time period have been canceled. Solid waste will not be picked up on Wednesday.
Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand: The Boys and Girls Club will close at 3 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed through Jan. 22.
North Myrtle Beach Humane Society: The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Restaurants and cafes
Chick-Fil-A: The North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach Mall and Seaboard Commons locations will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Family night has been rescheduled for Jan. 28.
Surfside Charlie’s: The Surfside Beach restaurant will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21. Surfside Charlie’s will still have its $10 Tuesday deals before closing.
Casa Mia Surfside: Casa Mia will have a final seating at 4:30 p.m. and close at 5 p.m. It will hopefully be open normal hours on Jan. 22
Hachiya Express Surfside Beach: Hachiya Express will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.
Mon Cafe Japan Conway: The Japanese restaurant will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21
Barista Boss Beverage Co: The coffee shop near Socastee, will be closed on Jan. 22 with plans to reopen on Jan. 23.
BBQ House in Surfside Beach: BBQ House will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed on Jan. 22. The restaurant plans to reopen at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Life is Sweet: The Little River bakery, will close on Jan. 22 and hope to reopen on Jan. 23.
Stores and other businesses
- Tanger Outlets: Both Tanger Outlet locations will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in preparation of inclement weather, according to the Tanger website. There is no information about Wednesday yet. Bricks and Minifigs, a Lego store at the Tanger Outlet along U.S. 501, will close on Jan. 22 as well.
- United Bank: All Myrtle Beach area locations will close early on Jan. 21 and stay closed on Jan. 22
- Black Dog Outfitters: the downtown Conway store will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- Tomlinson’s North Myrtle Beach: The store will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed on Jan. 22.
- NAPA Auto Parts: The Conway area car parts store will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21 and stay closed through Jan. 22.
- Carolina Athletics: Carolina Athletics will close on Jan. 22 and is expected to reopen on Jan. 23.
- Kilwins Myrtle Beach: The sweets store at Broadway at the Beach will close at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21. Kilwins said its closing to allow employees to make it home safe
- Pee Dee Bicycle of Myrtle Beach: Pee Dee Bicycle in Market Common will close at 3 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- Miss Master Children’s Clothing of Myrtle Beach: Miss Master Children’s Clothing will close at 3 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- Rivertown Tumbling and Cheer: Rivertown Tumbling and Cheer in Conway will be closed on Jan. 21 and 22.
- Conway Ford: The Ford dealership in Conway will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 2
- Once Upon A Child: The children’s clothing retailer will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- The Little Gym: The children’s gym in Market Common will close at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and remain closed through Jan. 22. For those signed up for Little Gym classes on these days, a makeup credit will be given.
- Conway Feed: The Conway Feed store will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21
- Echo 6 Outdoor Shooting Park: The shoot park in Galivants Ferry will be closed on Jan. 22.
