Myrtle Beach SC vacations may be dampened by soggy weather. Will it end for the weekend?
If you’re in Myrtle Beach for vacation this week, make sure to have some rainy day activities lined up.
The Myrtle Beach area has a stormy week ahead due to a low pressure system slowly moving through the southern states.
Myrtle Beach is expecting a total of 2.28 inches of rain this week, according to the latest weather briefing from the National Weather Service.
There is a also a risk of flooding and flash flooding.
There is a low risk of rip currents for the Myrtle Beach area. However, life-threatening rip currents may still occur especially near jetties, reefs and piers, according to NWS.
Forecaster Carl Morgan said that an “upper-level cut off low,” — a stagnant low pressure system dropping off in Tennessee, is bringing tropical air to the area, causing the stormy weather.
There are high chances of thunderstorms for the area until Friday. Morgan said that the spring has been drier than usual.
“We’ve been fairly dry for May and early June, usually we have more thunderstorm activity during that time than we’ve had this year,” Morgan said. “It’s been unusual but hopefully we’re gonna make up for that deficit over the next few days.”
