After a dusting of snow fell in the Myrtle Beach area overnight, temperatures are expected to warm Saturday afternoon before dropping later in the day, meteorologists said.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 40s Saturday afternoon, causing the snow to melt, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C.

Wind chills and temperatures in the upper teens and low 20s are predicted for Saturday night and Sunday morning, a forecast shows. The cold weather could cause black ice to form in some areas.

Meteorologists expect temperatures to warm next week.

The last time the Myrtle Beach area received significant snowfall was in 2018 during Winter Storm Grayson.

The geographically uncommon weather came just a week after an ice storm and unusually low temperatures hit the area. Last week’s storm brought freezing rain and sleet to the Myrtle Beach area and some snow farther inland, prompting businesses to close and schools to move online.
