A heat advisory was issued by the NWS Wilmington NC on Thursday at 2:33 p.m. valid for Friday between noon and 7 p.m. The advisory is for Myrtle Beach area, Inland Georgetown, Coastal Georgetown and Conway.

The NWS informs, "Heat index values up to 109 degrees expected."

"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," describes the NWS.

This advisory is in effect until Friday at 7 p.m.

• Find the right time: Consider rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening if possible.
• Recognize early indicators: Learn to identify the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.

For a safer outdoor work environment, follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s guidance by scheduling regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, promptly move them to a cool, shaded area. In an emergency, call 911.
